SINGAPORE – Our new Tuas Mega Port will use many automated technology to perform its operations as Singapore wants to reimagine and reinvigorate the maritime industry. In 2040 when fully completed, Tuas mega port will be the world’s biggest fully automated terminal, featuring such as automated electric guided vehicles and automated wharf.

parc-clematis-tuas-mega-port-clementi-condoOn 3-October during the ground breaking ceremony, PM Mr Lee Hsien Loong said that the sift to Tuas goes beyond just having a larger port. He said that while constructing the new port and its ecosystem is an immense operation, it can be achieved if “we have the same guts and vision as our earlier generation of engineers and port planners “.

PSA needs to paint the best minds to manage its acitiviies and to match its competitors who are also investing in automation and expanding rapidly, he added. Other than handling containers, the mega port will have space set apart for companies to be located, a shift that could enhance the connections between businesses and ports.

Mr Lee added that there are long-term plans to enhance the transport activity in the area, but these will take some time.
At the same time, the Government is working very hard with PSA and the unions to ensure that all PAS staffs can get to work conveniently and comfortably.

As reported by the MPA, the maritime industry contributes about 7% of Singapore’s gross domestic product, and hires about 170 thousand people.

PM Lee said PSA makes “a much greater contribution to the economy than most other companies”, and reminded it of the need to pursue both long-term viability, short-term profitability and competitiveness.

The Tuas Mega Port is located at the south-western of Singapore and it is about double the size of Ang Mo Kio.

It will be developed in few phases, where the second phase is began in July 2019. This project will cost more then twenty billion.
Its first docs are scheduled to start its operatons in 2021. PSA’s three city terminals at Keppel, Tanjong Pagar and Brani will shift by 2027. By 2040, Pasir Panjang Terminal will be shifted to the mega port too.

The 26km deepwater docks can handle 65 million 20 feet equivalent units yearly, the mega port will be able to cater to the demands of the world’s largest container ships.
